Breeders

Don't Breed or Buy

Please watch this movie before you buy or breed:

Breeding isn't a good thing. Whether they are responsible or irresponsible breeders, ALL are contributing to the overpopulation problem. The one question breeders need to ask themselves is: Why breed when animals are dying at shelters?

There are too many unwanted animals, and by breeding you are making matters worse. You can help lower the population by NOT breeding, and by NOT buying from a breeder. It's really sad that some people would breed, when sweet animals are dying at shelters...everyday.

There are many reasons why you shouldn't buy from a breeder. Whether it is a puppy mill, backyard breeder, or responsible, they are ALL doing the same thing- *breeding to make money*. Some breeders are more about the money than others. Rescues are not all about the money, and neither are shelters. Rescues serve one purpose- to rescue shelter animals. Shelters serve one purpose- to rescue the animals the unlucky animals that are dumped there (most come from breeders).

Please remember...

THERE IS NEVER A GOOD REASON TO BREED AN ANIMAL!

Below are the 10 reasons you SHOULDN'T breed and the 10 reasons why you SHOULDN'T buy from a breeder.

10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULDN'T BUY FROM A BREEDER

  1. Breeders use their money to breed MORE animals, which makes MORE unwanted animals in the world, while rescues use their money to rescue more animals.
  2. Breeders breed the same mother(s) OVER AND OVER again. Does the mother asked to be bred? Does the mother WANT to be bred? When you adopt from a rescue/shelter you give that mother a break.
  3. There are MANY different breeds of dogs, cats, horses at rescues. So just because you can't find a certain breed/type of animal at a rescue or shelter, DON'T turn to a breeder! There are special searches and websites that can help you find that special pet!
  4. Breeders don't euthanize their animals, but shelters DO. If you buy from a breeder, a shelter animal dies. Why? Because you could've adopted a shelter dog/cat, but instead chose a breeder.
  5. Breeders are SKY-HIGH EXPENSIVE. Some breeders charge $500+ for a puppy! Why pay that much for a puppy, when you can get a puppy on death-row at a shelter for $50 and less?
  6. Breeders are causing and contributing to the overpopulation problem. If you buy from them, you are helping the overpopulation problem too.
  7. You aren't saving anything at a breeder. In fact you are buying. You buy a sweater from the store, you don't BUY an animal.
  8. Some breeders take really good care of their animals, so they have a soft bed, warm house, etc. (this doesn't apply to all breeders). But shelter animals have a concrete floor and a mat. When you save a shelter dog, they get a good home.
  9. Shelter animals will love you forever...why? Because you saved their life.
  10. Shelters don't have room for all of the animals. When you adopt from them, you are allowing them to rescue more.

Shelters need you more than breeders do.

10 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULDN'T BREED

  1. Breeding takes time. It is not a quick-money making scheme. If you are in desperate need of money, breeding isn't the answer.
  2. Breeding is expensive. Not only must you adopt a male and female dog (both uneutered and unspayed), you must also provide, vet care, food, water, shelter, and you have to be with the mother the entire time during birth. Also keep in mind that complications do occur.
  3. When you breed, you are contributing to the overpopulation problem, and you aren't helping any animals when you breed.
  4. Breeding is LOTS of responsibility, you must make sure each life you make gets a good home.
  5. There are other ways to make money.
  6. Experience is needed with breeding. It's not something you decide to do overnight.
  7. You must have animals to breed first. That also costs money. Then you will have to be able to handle 6-8 crying puppies, kittens, etc.
  8. You must have the facilities to breed.
  9. Not everyone is fit for the breeder lifestyle. If you are in breeding for the money, you won't be a successful breeder.
  10. Breeders also need to be patient. Mothers don't give birth in a day, and you don't make money the next day. It takes a long time.

Many breeders are not alike. Some are very nice, while others are horrible pet owners. If you are ever have to buy from a breeder, please make sure it is a good, responsible one. Don't buy from pet stores, EVER. Pet stores are usually run by puppy mills, and dangerous breeders. The animals there are sick and unhealthy. You should never buy from a pet store. Please also do not breed. Leave it to the experienced and knowledgable.

Backyard breeders are people who just one day, decide to breed their dog. DO NOT BECOME A BACKYARD BREEDER!  Backyard breeders are inexperienced, and are not familiar with breeding animals! If you want to breed your animal, we recommend you talk to an experienced individual first! Do research!

Thank you for reading this! If you ever need to find a certain breed or type of animal, just email Help A Horse and we can set up a search for you!

Breeding is not for everyone! Please make sure you are able to provide for the animals you have before you decide to breed. It is not fair to the animals.

Rescue and adoption is always saving a life, and it is really helpful to the other needy animals.
